Things are a bit hectic right now! Our country is slowly cancelling events, closing fitness centers, restaurants, casinos, and movie theaters. The list is probably longer than that, but you get the gist of it. We really should take this time to start implementing healthy eating habits.
Being Forced to Cook at Home
I know a lot of people in the restaurant industry will probably hate me for saying this, but it's about time we cook for ourselves and make healthy and yummy home cooked meals! We as a society have become very spoiled with being able to go out to eat and having food made for us right at our fingertips, but now is the perfect time to try to get back on track with healthy eating without the temptation to do bad while you're out and about. I know that a lot of stores have limited supplies right now, but honestly when I went to the store I noticed that most of the healthy foods were still available. So be safe, get to the store, buy nutrient dense foods, and cook, and even teach your kids how to cook healthy meals.
Foods to Buy
Here are some examples of healthy foods you can buy and set yourself up for success-
Lean Meats (chicken, turkey, beef, fish)
Fresh or Frozen Veggies
White or Brown Rice
Whole Grain Pasta
Sweet Potatoes
Fresh or Frozen Fruits
Greek Yogurt
Low Fat Cottage Cheese
Eggs & Egg Whites (if they're available)
Old fashioned Pop Corn Kernels for snacks
These foods are caloric and nutritionally dense, which will keep you feeling fuller longer.
Stay Safe & Stay Healthy
As you brave your way to the grocery store, most healthy items will be found in the perimeter of the store, and not the center aisles.
